In aid of preventing dryness, we are encouraged to apply an emollient such as colloidal oat after rinsing. Washing the hands with soap and water to protect against COVID-19, and then washing again with an emollient whilst the hands are still wet can fight against skin dryness. This practice locks in the moisture by forming a layer over the skin.
The outer layer of our skin is a sophisticated barrier with an important oily surface layer that acts as a protective shield as well as a natural moisturizer. Soaps can strip the skin of these natural oils thus damaging that barrier, causing our hands to dry out. If our hands become too dry, there is a chance of peeling and cracking, allowing bacteria to enter and infections to develop. Another problem is that due to the alkalinity of most soaps, the surface of our hands is rendered alkaline, rather than the natural and critical acidic pH that it should be.
In aid of preventing dryness, we have a wonderful prize to give away today. On behalf and thanks to AproDerm, we’re giving away a three-month supply of AproDerm products that are incredible for dry hands and will moisturize them and keep them from cracking. As AproDerm emollient, or colloidal oat, can be used consistently without consequence they are typically used right after rinsing off soap, the hands are then re-washed using AproDerm Emollient or AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream and rinsed. The hands should then be dried and while still damp an emollient from the AproDerm range should be applied which then creates that vital layer over the skin that will protect from dryness and further strengthen the first line of defense against dry hands.
